Minnesota Duluth has secured a third goaltender for the 2022-23 season via the transfer portal.

Czechia national team goalie Blanka Skodova will join the Bulldogs as a graduate transfer after playing four seasons for Vermont. She posted a .900 save percentage and 1.99 goals against average in 11 games a year ago as a senior and leaves the Catamounts with a .901 save percentage and 2.30 GAA in 53 career games.

Skodova, who last played for Czechia in 2020, was in a backup role in three of her four seasons at Vermont. She will likely be in that role again with Swedish Olympian Emma Soderberg returning to UMD for a fifth season in 2022-23 after backstopping the Bulldogs to the NCAA championship game a year ago at Penn State.

The Bulldogs are also bringing in a freshman goalie, Hailey Macleod, who was part of Canada’s team that won gold recently at the 2022 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship in Madison, Wisconsin.

UMD lost two goaltenders to the transfer portal this spring after Soderberg decided to return to the Bulldogs for a fifth season. Sophomore Jojo Chobak — who filled in as the starter for Soderberg during the 2022 Olympics in Beijing and beyond — has transferred to St. Cloud State and freshman Holly Gruber transferred to Clarkson.
