DULUTH — The Carolina Hurricanes announced Thursday the hiring of former Minnesota Duluth defenseman and Olympic gold medalist Sidney Morin as a professional scout.
Morin returned to the United States this year to continue her professional hockey career with the Minnesota Whitecaps of the Premier Hockey Federation. She spent the previous five seasons in Europe, including the 2021-22 season in Switzerland, and before that in Sweden. She was the most valuable player of the Swiss league last season and the highest scoring defenseman in Sweden the previous two years.
Privileged to join this organization and excited to be apart of the Canes family! https://t.co/fZG5c5GJRI

Prior to winning Olympic gold on the United States blue line in 2018 in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Morin was a two-year captain for the Bulldogs and the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2016-17.
Morin is one of two UMD women's hockey alumnae — both defensemen — who are currently working as professional scouts in the NHL, along with Brigette Lacquette of the Chicago Blackhawks.
