DULUTH — Fifth-year senior defenseman Maggie Flaherty scored two goals, fifth-year senior center Gabbie Hughes finished with four points and a pair of freshmen scored their first goals as Bulldogs in Minnesota Duluth's 9-0 rout of Harvard on Saturday to complete the nonconference sweep at Amsoil Arena.

Flaherty scored the Bulldogs' first two goals of the afternoon in the first period before freshmen forwards Mary Kate O'Brien and Danielle Burgen scored their first collegiate goals in the second period.

Fifth-year senior forwards Kylie Hanley and Anneke Linser, sixth-year senior forward Naomi Rogge and junior forward Katie Davis all added goals in the third. Linser finished with three points — a goal and two assists.

Hughes' goal came in the second period, tying her with Laura Fridfinnson for ninth at UMD in career goals at 75. Hughes also had three assists, to put her in a tie with Maria Rooth for fifth at UMD in career assists with 113.

Freshman goaltender Hailey Macleod got her second start of the season and picked up two firsts as a Bulldog. She not only made 15 saves on 15 shots for her first collegiate shutout on Saturday, she earned up her first college point by assisting Hanley's goal in the third.

With the sweep of Harvard this weekend, Bulldogs head coach Maura Crowell — a former Harvard assistant, associate head coach and interim head coach — and associate head coach Laura Bellamy — a former Crimson assistant coach and goaltender — improved to 8-1 against their former team.

Hughes, meanwhile, upped her totals to eight goals and seven assists in five games against Harvard.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
