In Part 3 of a four-story preview of the 2021-22 Minnesota Gophers' hockey season, we meet Ben Meyers, who hails from a relatively unknown part of the State of Hockey, and could legally buy beer as a U of M freshman. Now a junior, and in his second year as part of the team's leadership, he is renowned for strength and an unmatched intensity on the ice.
As a member of the Fargo Force, Ben Meyers led the team offensively in 2018-19. A year later he was the top freshman for the Minnesota Gophers as he made a fairly seamless transition to college hockey. While he waits for some kind of normalcy to return, Meyers returned to Fargo to help with the Force tryout camp.
Warroad Warriors star forward Grant Slukynsky tied a state tournament record that had stood for 69 years on Wednesday, notching five points in the first period of his team's state tournament opening round blowout -- one of three lopsided games in the Class A bracket.
