Hockey Roundup: Willmar girls clear out Prairie Centre

Prep hockey report from west central Minnesota for Jan. 31, 2022. Five-point night from Chloe Lownsbury helps Cardinals to 11-3 win

SAUK CENTRE — Willmar sophomore Chloe Lownsbury had two goals and three assists to lead the Cardinals girls hockey team to an 11-3 non-conference win over Prairie Centre on Monday at the Sauk Centre Ice Arena.

The Blue Devils scored first with a Natasha Ludwig goal at 6 minutes, 15 seconds of the first period. But over the next 58 seconds, Willmar went up 3-1 with two goals from Nina Dawson and one from Lauren Eilers. Makenna Larson tacked on another goal in the first.

Then in the second, Lownsbury, Samantha Poe, Avery Olson and Avery Quinn popped in goals for the Cardinals to build an 8-3 lead. Lownsbury tacked on one more goal in the third, along with Becca Dawson and Poe.

Willmar outshot Prairie Centre 62-9.

The Cardinals (13-11-0) wrap up the regular season at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Fergus Falls. The Otters lead the Central Lakes Conference with a 7-2 record while Willmar is seventh at 3-8.

River Lakes 13, MBA 1

River Lakes improved its record in Section 6A to 6-2-0 following a win over Morris/Benson Area at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville.

The Stars (14-10-0) head to Alexandria on Thursday. The Storm (1-19-1) are also on the road Thursday in Pequot Lakes to face Northern Lakes.

Boys Hockey

Northern Lakes 6, Willmar 2

Northern Lakes fired 60 shots on goal, connecting on six, to beat Willmar at the Willmar Civic Center.

It was a matchup of Section 6A teams.

Tyler Seeling had a hat trick for Northern lakes.

Cullen Gregor and Elijah Van Buren scored goals for Willmar.

Willmar plays Fergus Falls at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the Willmar Civic Center.

Wadena-Deerk Creek knocked off Morris/Benson Area in a matchup of Section 6A teams at Wadena.

Wadena-Deer Creek is now 13-9. The Storm fell to 10-10-1.

MBA plays Prairie Centre at 7 p.m. Thursday in Benson.
