WADENA — Just nine days after Detroit Lakes beat Wadena-Deer Creek 5-1 at home, the Lakers team walked into Wadena on a cold Thursday night and walloped the Wolverines 10-0.
It took less than three minutes into the first period for Cooper Moore to put the Lakers up 1-0, after he smacked in a rebound that came off of Wolverine goaltender Gunner Olson. Jordan Fields picked up the assist on the play.
Seven minutes later, Jacob Thomas ripped what looked like a routine slapshot from the blue line. However, sophomore Carter Bellefeuille tipped the shot in front of the net to put the Lakers up 2-0.
Cooper Moore followed that up with a beautiful one-timer from Jordan Fields to put Detroit Lakes up 3-0. Spencer Bergman picked up an assist on the play as well. The Lakers outshot WDC 14-4 in the first period.
Detroit Lakes came out in the second period and showed what type of beast they can turn into when they are truly clicking on all cylinders. The Lakers pummeled Olson with 31 shots in the frame. Ben Hines, Cole Deraney, Fields, Bergman, and Bellefeuille all scored in the period to take a 9-0 lead.

Bergman would find the back of the net one more time with just over a minute left in the game to complete the hat trick. Cole Larson, and Bellefeuille picked up assists on the final goal. Elijah Blow was perfect in net for the Lakers, stopping all 14 shots he faced. Gunner Olson finished with 41 saves on 51 shots.
“This is a good win, we’ve had some dog fights here in the past,” Detroit Lakes assistant coach Tanner Lane said. “Our message tonight was to come out and play three strong periods, and we did that. We have a very deep team, and some huge games coming up down the stretch here. Tonight's win is a testament to our team, our depth.”
The Lakers have now won 15 out of their last 17 and have scored 30 goals in their last three games.
“We're playing a good brand of hockey right now," Lane said. "This is right where we wanna be at this point in the season. We’re making good things happen, and getting better each week. Glad to come out of tonight healthy as well,”
Detroit Lakes moves to 15-4 on the season and will face Brainerd in Detroit Lakes on Saturday at 2 p.m. Wadena falls to a record of 13-10 and will head to Red Lake Falls on Saturday to face a tough Eagles squad. That game starts at 2 p.m. as well.
