Prep Hockey Roundup: River Lakes rallies to edge Coon Rapids

Stars beat Cardinals 3-2 with goals from Fink, Pientka and Schultz. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato boys beat Bloomington Kennedy while Litch/D-C girls defeat Detroit Lakes.

RICHMOND — River Lakes boys hockey rebounded from Tuesday’s overtime loss to take a 3-2 comeback victory over Coon Rapids on Saturday.

The Cardinals’ took the first lead of the game when Harry Covel scored on the power play at 11:30 of the first period.

In the second, the Stars’ Anthony Fink scored to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the third.

River Lakes’ Cole Pientka scored an unassisted, short-handed goal at 8:23 to take a 2-1 lead.

Coon Rapids answered with a power-play goal by Covel to tie the game 2-2 seconds later.

River Lakes’ Blake Schultz scored on a power-play goal a little over 11 minutes into the final period.

Stars’ goalie Ashton Fischer took the win, saving 23 of 25 shots. Cardinals’ goalie Mark Danek saved 20 of 23.

River Lakes (2-3-0) plays Sartell at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Sartell’s Bernick’s Arena.

Zachary Zwilling’s two-goal game helped carry Litchfield/Dassel Cokato to a win over Bloomington Kennedy at the Litchfield Civic Arena.

Both of Zwilling’s goals came in the second period after a scoreless first period to give the Dragons a 2-0 lead that held until the third period.

The Eagles’ Noah Thornburg scored a goal a minute into the third period, narrowing the gap to 2-1.

Nicholas Manning scored a goal minutes later for the Eagles to tie the game 2-2.

Ryan Schultz gave the Dragons the lead with a goal at 13:08 into the final period.

Neither team scored again.

Litchfield/D-C (2-2-0) plays Princeton at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Litchfield.

Emmy Haataja and Gabby Robertson each scored two goals and Janelle Quast earned the shutout in goal to lead Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato past Detroit Lakes on Saturday at Litchfield Civic Arena.

Emily Johnson, Grace Braaten, Stella Hillman, Camryn Nelson, Julia Peter, Olivia Robertson, Lydia Schultz and Anna Holcomb all had single goals for Litch/D-C.

Quast made 12 saves in goal.

Litch/D-C plays Northern Lakes at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hallett Community Center in Crosby.
