Prep Girls Hockey Roundup: Willmar comes up short against Delano/Rockford

Cardinals cut a three-goal deficit to one late in 5-4 loss

DELANO — Willmar rallied from a late deficit, but it came up short in a 5-4 girls hockey loss Saturday to Delano/Rockford.

Delano/Rockford took a 2-0 lead early in the second period after a scoreless first. The Cardinals then scored twice to tie it up, getting goals from Nina Dawson and Sophia Quinn.

Kayleigh Olson then found the next at 15:37 to put Delano/Rockford up 3-2 heading into the third period.

Delano/Rockford added two more goals before the Cardinals made their comeback, getting goals from Lauren Eilers and Makenna Larson.

Willmar is host to Prairie Centre at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Willmar Civic Center.

Kiana Roeske had a hat trick to lead River Lakes past Prairie Centre at Sauk Centre.

Sophia Hess and Jordyn Bebus each had two goals for the Stars, who also got goals from Brielle Cremers and Bianna Willeman.

River Lakes travels to Fergus Falls on Tuesday.

Down 6-0 in the second period, Worthington stormed back to come away with a home win over Morris/Benson Area on Saturday.

The Trojans scored five goals in the third period in the come-from-behind victory.

Still looking for their first win, the Storm host Luverne at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Benson.
