Prep Boys Hockey Roundup: Willmar shuts out Redwood Valley, 6-0

Cullen Gregory gets a hat trick, Gavin Steinwand records shutout for Cardinals

WILLMAR — The Willmar boys hockey team earned a 6-0 victory over Redwood Valley on Saturday at the Willmar Civic Center.

The Cardinals peppered Redwood Valley goaltender Camden Cilek with 55 shots on goal. Meanwhile, Gavin Steinwand made 21 saves to earn the shutout.

Steinwand also was credited with an assist on Willmar’s fifth goal. He set up Cullen Gregory at 13:47 of the second period. Gregory had a hat trick for the Cardinals, scoring the first goal of the game and also at 2:44 of the second period.

Elijah Van Buren and Arron Fischer also scored goals for Willmar.

The Cardinals play Moose Lake Area at 1 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Ice Arena in Moose Lake.

Blake Schultz and Bradey Blaschko each scored two goals to lead River Lakes past Prairie Centre at Sauk Centre.

Matthew Dotzler, Chase Schulzetenberg, Jacob Phillippi and Joel Sowada also had goals for the Stars, who outshot the North Stars 35-17.

Ashton Fischer made 17 saves in net to get the shutout.

River Lakes plays Becker/Big Lake at 7 p.m. Monday at Princeton.

Luke Kern popped in the game-winning goal with 22 seconds left in regulation to lift Breck past Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato at Anderson Ice Arena in Golden Valley.

Zachary Zwilling had a goal and an assist for the Dragons. Jaxon Gustafson and Gavyn Lund also scored for Litchfield/D-C.

The Dragons host Marshall at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Worthington got within a goal of Morris/Benson Area after the second period before the Storm chipped in three straight goals on the way to a victory in Worthington.

Trevor Buss, Tim Blume and Brady Pederson each had goals for MBA in the third period. Pederson had two goals and an assist in the victory.
