DULUTH -- The Bemidji State women’s hockey team was all tied up with No. 9 Minnesota Duluth by the first intermission on Friday. And then things took a turn for the worse.

The Bulldogs scored four goals apiece in the second and third periods, soaring to an 8-2 victory over BSU in Duluth. It was a rude welcome for the Beavers, who were back on the ice for their first game in four weeks.

More positive than the final score, though, was that fifth-year seniors Paige Beebe and Lindsey Featherstone made history for Bemidji State. Both played in their 148th consecutive game, which ties the program record set by Alexis Joyce in 2018. Beebe and Featherstone are also now one game away from tying Whitney Wivoda’s record of 151 career games played.

BSU (7-11-3, 4-11-2 WCHA) did get goals out of freshmen Claire Vekich and Taylor Larson, but the Beavers only lit the lamp for the first time after UMD (12-7, 9-6 WCHA) had four goals on the scoreboard.

Minnesota Duluth scored off strikes from Anna Klein, Naomi Rogge and Katie Davis in the second, with Rogge bagging back-to-back goals within 1:34 for a 4-0 advantage.

Vekich’s goal came on the power play and made it 4-1 early in the third, but the Bulldogs racked up three more before Larson netted her goal.

Klein and Davis both recorded their second scores of the game during the third period, while Elizabeth Giguere and Anneke Linser tallied their firsts later on.

Hannah Hogenson started in net for Bemidji State and recorded 31 saves on 38 attempts. Abbie Thompson played the final 8:08 and was 3-for-4. Emma Soderberg earned the victory between the pipes for UMD, stopping 18 of 20 shots.

Beebe and Featherstone will go for more history -- and BSU a series split -- when the teams run it back for a 3:01 p.m. rematch on Saturday, Jan. 15, in Duluth.
