KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Western Michigan has apparently found a successful formula when it plays St. Cloud State.
Brandon Bussi had 36 saves and four Broncos had goals in a 4-0 NCHC win over the Huskies on Saturday at Lawson Arena. The win gives Western Michigan a series sweep and the Broncos have won six of the eight games the teeams have played in the last two seasons.
Bussi, a junior from Sound Beach, N.Y. stopped 64 of 66 shots in the series for the Broncos.
After a scoreless first period, the Broncos got goals from Jason Polin and Michael Joyaux 17 seconds apart in the second period to take a 2-0 lead.
Western Michigan (8-4) added empty net goals by Paul Washe and Ty Glover in the last 3:03 of the third period to put the game away.
Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.
Jaxon Castor, a junior from Phoenix, Arizona, stopped 20 of 22 shots in his second start of the season for the Huskies (9-5).
St. Cloud State has a bye week next week. The Huskies play host to North Dakota on Dec. 3-4 in their last games before the holiday break.
