UND, Cornell set date for series in Ithaca, N.Y.

The series has been altered twice because of the COVID-19 pandemic and conflicting conference schedules.

GRAND FORKS — UND and Cornell finally have a date set for their series in Ithaca, N.Y.

The Fighting Hawks and Big Red will meet in Lynah Rink during the 2024-25 season.

It had been a struggle to reschedule the Ithaca series, which was originally supposed to happen in 2020-21. Cornell canceled its 2020-21 season, though, due to the coronavirus pandemic and UND wiped out all of its nonconference games that year.

They tentatively rescheduled it for January 2023, but the date conflicted with an ECAC series for Cornell, so it had to be backed up again.

They will now play in 2024-25.

UND has traveled to the historic Lynah Rink, built in the 1950s, once in program history. It played against Cornell in Ithaca during the 2009-10 season, splitting a two-game series.

Cornell blanked UND 1-0 in that series opener in a matchup of two future NHL goalies — UND's Aaron Dell and Cornell's Ben Scrivens. UND came back to win the series finale 3-1 behind goals from Brad Malone, Chris VandeVelde and Jason Gregoire.

UND's future schedules are coming into focus.

The Fighting Hawks lined up Division-I newcomer Lindenwood to fill the January 6-7 spot, which is where Cornell was originally slotted for the upcoming season. They'll also play nonconference series against Holy Cross (home), Quinnipiac (home), Minnesota (road) and Bemidji State (road/home), along with the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game against Arizona State in Las Vegas.

In 2023-24, the Fighting Hawks have nonconference series lined up at home against Minnesota, Minnesota State-Mankato and Bemidji State. They'll play on the road at Boston University.

In 2024-25, the Fighting Hawks will play at Minnesota State-Mankato and Cornell. They'll host Boston University and play a home-and-away against Bemidji State.
