Denver shuts out SCSU, earns series sweep

Magnus Chrona made 22 saves for Pioneers, who beat Huskies 2-0 for their 8th straight win over them at Magness Arena

DENVER — Different type of game, same result.

One day after the teams combined to score 13 goals, Denver beat St. Cloud State 2-0 in an NCHC game on Saturday at Magness Arena. It was the eighth straight win for NCHC-leading Denver (13-3-0 NCHC, 20-5-1 overall) over the Huskies (6-7-1, 14-9-1) at Magness. Denver is also 13-0-1 at Magness this season.

Magnus Chrona, a junior goalie from Sweden and a Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick, made 22 saves for his fifth shutout of the season.

David Hrenak, a graduate student from Slovakia, made 34 saves for the Huskies.

The game was scoreless until Carter King scored his first college goal on a rebound at 2:49 of the second period for Denver.

It remained 1-0 until relatively late in the the third period. With St. Cloud State trying to kill a penalty, senior defenseman Brendan Bushy was called for a five-minute boarding penalty with 4:24 left.

Denver senior captain Cole Guttman scored a power-play goal with 3:51 left to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.

It was the third time this season that St. Cloud State has been shut out.
