Midco Sports play-by-play announcer Alex Heinert is getting a national TV assignment.
Heinert is the new play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports, calling National Collegiate Hockey Conference games alongside longtime color commentator Dave Starman and rinkside reporter Shireen Saski.
Heinert will call eight regular-season games for CBS Sports beginning Jan. 7. He also will call the NCHC Frozen Faceoff in St. Paul's Xcel Energy Center in March.
During his absence, Midco Sports announcer David Brown, who has primarily handled Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games for the network, will do UND hockey play-by-play alongside color commentator Jake Brandt.
Brian Shawn will call UND men's and women's basketball games this season. Shawn has called Summit League hoops for Midco Sports in recent years, primarily out of Fargo.

Heinert will continue to work full-time for Midco Sports outside of the CBS assignments.
Heinert began calling UND hockey games in 2016-17. He became widely recognized last season during the NCHC Pod in December, where he served as the play-by-play voice for league games beyond just UND.
Heinert also had an opportunity to work with Starman during the Pod in Omaha.
Brown is slated to call seven UND hockey games — home series against Cornell (Jan. 7-8), Omaha (Jan. 14-15), St. Cloud State (Jan. 28-29) and Colorado College (Feb. 4).
Heinert will call the Saturday night game against Colorado College (Feb. 5) and the home series against Western Michigan on Feb. 25-26. The series opener is on CBS Sports and the finale is on Midco Sports.
Heinert also will call UND's NCHC quarterfinal best-of-three series if the Fighting Hawks host it.
CBS Sports also has one UND hockey road game on the schedule — Feb. 18 at Minnesota Duluth.
The previous voice of the NCHC on CBS Sports, Ben Holden, is calling KHL games this season.
