MEN’S HOCKEY: Will Zmolek earns first career CCHA Defenseman of the Week nod

Bemidji State men’s hockey defenseman Will Zmolek was named the CCHA’s defenseman of the week for the first time in his career on Tuesday.

BEMIDJI – Bemidji State men’s hockey defenseman Will Zmolek was named the CCHA’s defenseman of the week for the first time in his career on Tuesday.

The junior posted two assists against Bowling Green, helping the Beavers advance to the CCHA semifinals with a 2-1 series win. Both helpers came in Saturday’s game, which BSU won 4-2.

Zmolek led Bemidji State with a +6 rating in the series and posted six blocked shots, a team high.

He joins Minnesota State’s Sam Morton (forward), Michigan Tech’s Blake Pietila (goaltender) and Bowling Green’s Ben Wozney (rookie) as CCHA Players of the Week for March 8.

Zmolek and pairmate Elias Rosén are the two Beaver blueliners to be named players of the week this season.

BSU will face Michigan Tech in a one-game CCHA semifinal at 5:07 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, in Houghton, Mich.
