DEEP HAVEN -- Mattias Sholl has been voted as one of the best rookies between the pipes in the CCHA.
The Bemidji State men’s hockey freshman goaltender was named to the conference’s All-Rookie Team on Monday, joining a group of six others and standings as one of two goalies to crack the list.
In the regular season, Sholl had a 9-10 record and posted the league’s third-best goals against average (2.94) and save percentage (.896) among rookies, and seventh overall in the league.
The Hermosa Beach, Calif., native recorded 1041:36 minutes in goal and recorded 441 saves. He thrice earned league honors during the season, winning Goaltender of the Week (Oct. 25), Rookie of the Week (Jan. 10) and Rookie of the Month (January).

Joining Sholl on the CCHA All-Rookie Team were Ferris State’s Bradley Marek (F), Lake Superior State’s Josh Nixon (F), Bowling Green’s Austen Swankler (F) and Eric Parker (D), Minnesota State’s Bennett Zmolek (D) and Northern Michigan’s Charlie Glockner (G).

The eight head coaches from the league vote on the All-CCHA Teams and CCHA Players/Coach of the Year awards. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players or themselves.
The CCHA will also announce the league’s First and Second Teams on Tuesday, March 15. On Wednesday, March 16, the league will crown its Rookie of the Year, Defenseman of the Year, Forward of the Year and Goalie of the Year. On Thursday, March 17, the CCHA will name its Coach of the Year and Player of the Year.
Sholl and the Beavers are still alive this season, as well.
They defeated No. 13 Michigan Tech 5-2 in the CCHA semifinals on Saturday, March 12,
to advance to the Mason Cup Championship. In the title game, BSU will face No. 1 Minnesota State at 6:07 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, in Mankato.
