HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Bemidji State men’s hockey team dropped its fifth straight game on Saturday night in Houghton, Mich. The Beavers were swept by Michigan Tech after their third straight 5-2 loss and now trail the Huskies for second place in the CCHA standings.
Now with six games remaining in the regular season, BSU has earned 34 points, one shy of MTU’s 35 and four ahead of fourth-place Bowling Green.
Michigan Tech scored first, with Alec Broetzman netting a goal at 5:24 in the first period. Lukas Sillinger answered for the Beavers at 8:02, but Logan Ganie regained the lead with a goal at 16:34.
Jere Vaisanen tied it at two with a power-play goal 47 seconds into the second period for BSU (13-15, 11-9 CCHA).
In the third period, though, it was all Michigan Tech (14-8-1, 11-5 CCHA).

Broetzman scored again at 0:54, with Tommy Parrottino backing him up at 5:30. Down 4-2, Bemidji State pulled goaltender Mattias Sholl, but the Huskies took advantage. Tyrell Buckley scored an empty-netter at 17:56 to seal the game.
Sholl stopped 38 shots for BSU, but earned the loss. MTU’s Blake Pietila recorded 16 saves to earn the win.
The Beavers return home to face Northern Michigan at 7:07 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, and 6:07 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Sanford Center.
