MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Bemidji State men’s hockey team scored early on Saturday against Northern Michigan. But it wasn’t the biggest goal of the game.
That stretch came in the third period, when the Beavers scored three times to seal a 4-1 win and a weekend split with the Wildcats.
BSU (5-3-2, 3-1-2 CCHA) struck first with Will Magnuson’s goal at 8:23 in the first period, but that was quickly answered by Joey Larson’s goal for NMU (8-6, 4-2 CCHA) at 12:57.
The third period belonged to Bemidji State, though. Will Zmolek gave the Beavers the lead again just 30 seconds into the frame, and Alexander Lundman doubled it up with a score at 12:46 for a 3-1 advantage. Jere Vaisanen sealed BSU’s victory with his goal at 16:06.
Mattias Sholl stopped 25 of 26 shots faced in net to power Bemidji State to triumph, while Northern Michigan’s Beni Halasz finished with 14 saves.
