KEARNEY, Nebraska — Fargo's Aaron Huglen scored with 74 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and teammate Cody Monds scored at 2:52 of OT, lifting the Force to a 5-4 win over Tri-City on Saturday and into a deciding third game in the Clark Cup Western Conference semifinals.
Fargo and Tri-City, which won the series opener 3-2 on Friday, wrap the best-of-three series at 4:05 p.m. Sunday in Kearney.
Four times the Force battled back from deficits against Tri-City. After the Storm scored the game's first goal, Monds tied it less than two minutes later. Tri-City took a 2-1 lead early in the second and the Force's Austin Wong scored to tie it less than three minutes later.
Tri-City took a 3-2 lead midway through the second but Tristan Broz scored short-handed at 5:11 of the third to tie the game 3-3.
While the Force have had trouble scoring the conventional way — they're 1-of-10 on the power play in the first two games — the unconventional is working fine. Monds' game-winner was unassisted and Wong's and Broz' tying goals Saturday were both short handed, Wong's was unassisted, as well.
Broz also had two assists Saturday and Monds had a helper to go with the two goals. Jack Peart had two assists and Owen Gallatin had one.
