USHL notebook: 10 teams hit the road after completing their Fall Classic road trip

Day two of the Fall Classic is in the book, and 10 teams have completed the first two games to officially get the season underway.

PITTSBURGH — Two days are officially in the books at the 2022 USHL Fall Classic, and the first 10 teams have packed their busses and headed back on the road.


  • Tanner Ludtke and Mason Marcellus had themselves a weekend as they both leave the Fall Classic putting up a pair of goals and assists
  • Boston Buckberger also finished the weekend with four points as he put up a goal and three assists
  • Hagen Moe picked up his first USHL goal in their second game against the Green Bay Gamblers


  • James Duerr is the only player on the Gamblers to put up two goals at the Fall Classic


  • Although he has about a month until he returns to the ice, Zam Plante talked about how he is excited to be back in Pittsburgh, the organization that drafted him 150th overall at the 2022 NHL Draft, and how he hopes that he will run into some of the people he has met over the summer while at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex that is the practice facility for the Penguins.
  • 2024 top prospect Macklin Celebrini closes out the Fall Classic after putting up his first USHL goal and two assists for three points
  • Thor Byfuglien netted his first USHL goal as the Steel cruised past the Musketeers 7-4



  • The defending Clark Cup champions start the 2022-23 season off 0-2 after falling to Green Bay 4-2 on Thursday and Chicago 7-4 on Friday
  • Kaden Shahan had three goals at the Fall Classic


  • Samuel Harris netted the most goals of all skaters at the Fall Classic with four, also earning a hat trick against the Roughriders in game two of the season
  • Eric Rud completed his first road trip as head coach of the Stampede, and says it's been an exciting time for he and his family as they have packed up and moved to Sioux Falls this past month.


  • The Roughriders scored one goal through two games at the Fall Classic


  • Six different skaters contributed at least one goal and one assist through the Fall Classic
  • Graham Gamache led the team with a pair of goals and a pair of assits


  • Sacha Boisvert had a three goal showing at the Classic, the most on the team through the two games
  • Jake Richard led the team with two goals and two assists


  • Nick Oliver completed his first official road trip as head coach of the Fargo Force
  • Harper Bentz of Moorhead, Minn., scores his first USHL goal in the second game of the season against the Madison Capitols


  • The game against the Fargo Force and Madison Capitols was a face-off of two new head coaches in the USHL last season. Corey Leivermann, who was an assistant coach on the Capitols historic run to the Clark Cup final last season was on the bench for his second game as head coach this season. Nick Oliver, who was most recently an assistant coach for St. Cloud State University was on the bench for his second game as head coach.

It will be a fresh group at the Fall Classic on Saturday for day three, as the Omaha Lancers, USNTDP, Dubuque Fighting Saints, Youngstown Phantoms, Des Moines Buccaneers and Waterloo Blackhawks prepare to hit the ice for their pair of games for the final two days.
