The Lincoln Stars defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers 6-3 on Saturday.

The Stars started off well with a 2-0 lead receiving goals from Aidan Thompson and Gleb Veremyev.

Fyodor Nikolayenya scored at 8:20 into the second, assisted by Maxim Musorov, to give the Buccaneers the lead.

But the Lincoln Stars scored two more goals in the third period to take a commanding lead.

The Buccaneers narrowed the gap to 4-2 after Gabriel Lundberg beat the goalie in the third period.

The Stars made it 5-2 with a goal from Lucas Wahlin with 03.32 remaining in the period and came even closer to victory.

Joshua Barnes closed the gap for the Buccaneers at 5-3, and gave the game life once more with just four minutes of play remaining.

The Stars managed to decide the game 6-3 with 02.02 left when Doug Grimes netted one.

The Stars were called for 23 penalty minutes, while the Buccaneers received 25 minutes.

The Buccaneers play against the Sioux City Musketeers on Sunday at 7:05 p.m. CST at Ice Box. The Stars will face the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday at 3:05 p.m. CST at Tyson Events Center.
