Team USA hits double digits in 10-2 win over Germany

LANDSHUT, Germany — Team USA finished up its last preliminary game of the IIHF 2022 U18 Mens World Championship with a 10-2 rout of Germany on Tuesday, April 26.

The Americans didn't waste any time before getting on the scoresheet, scoring only 44 seconds into the game. The U.S. scored two more times before the end of the first 20 minutes.

An explosive five-goal second period helped extend Team USA's lead to 8-0.

The Germans scored two goals of their own in the third period, one on the power play and another with under five minutes left in regulation.

Most of the players on Team USA would find their way onto the scoresheet. Most notably, Will Smith (Lexington, Mass. / Boston College), Cole Spicer (Grand Forks), Rutger McGroarty (Lincoln, Neb. / Michigan), Lane Hutson (North Barrington, Ill. / Boston University), Seamus Casey (Fort Myers, Fla. / Michigan), and Devin Kaplan (Bridgewater, N.J. / Boston University) all had two point games, while Cruz Lucius (Grant, Minn. / Minnesota) notched three assists.

Trey Augustine (South Lyon, Mich. / Michigan) made 20 of 22 stops in goal for a .909 save percentage.

Team USA finished up the preliminary round 3-0, and will advance to the quarterfinals. It will play Latvia on Thursday, April 28, at 12:30 p.m. CT.
