USA Hockey gears up for restart of the 2022 World Juniors with roster, staff moves

Ryan Leonard, Aiden Thompson, Luke Tuch, Jacob Truscott, Jacob Fowler and Remmington Keopple have been added to the 2022 Junior Evaluation Camp.

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — It's been over six months since the 2022 World Junior Tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19, but as the old saying goes, if at first you don't succeed, try again as its now 20 days from the restart of the tournament.

Before the tournament, players will be taking part in the National Junior Evaluation Camp in Plymouth beginning Sunday, July 24 with the official 25 players roster for Team USA being announced Aug. 3. In addition to determining the roster for the tournament, the camp will also be used as an evaluation for the 2023 U.S. National Junior Team that will represent Team USA in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Moncton, New Brunswick, Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.

With the 2022 World Junior restart, there will also be some changes.

Ryan Leonard, Aiden Thompson, Luke Tuch, Jacob Truscott, Jacob Fowler and Remmington Keopple have been added to the 2022 Junior Evaluation Camp.

Chaz Lucius, a former Gopher who is now in the Winnipeg Jets organization, and Scott Morrow were originally named to the Team USA roster will be unavailable for the restart.

Grant Potulny, the head coach of Northern Michigan University men's hockey team, has been named the assistant coach for the team. This will mark the fourth time the former Gopher will represent Team USA on the National Junior team, with him also having been on staff for USA's gold medal wins in 2013 and 2017. Ted Donato was originally named an assistant coach but is unable to take part in the restart.

The 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship begins Aug. 9 in Edmonton, Alberta.
