WILLMAR — The Willmar WarHawks got within a goal of the NA3HL West Division-leading Granite City Lumberjacks on Friday night with a three-goal third period.

But for the white-hot Lumberjacks, a four-goal first period was too deep a hole for the WarHawks to climb out of as Granite City came away a 4-3 winner at the Willmar Civic Center.

The Lumberjacks won their 30th straight game.

Granite City had a pair of first-period goals by Andrew Butler.

At 3:35 of the third period, Collin Kerchoff put in an unassisted goal on the power play to put the WarHawks on the board. Then in the final 10 seconds of the game, Willmar tacked on a pair of scores from Willmar High School grad Elbridge DeKraai, followed by Tate Hammitt.
