Newhouse strikes twice in Brown Bears' win

The Kenai River Brown Bears defeated the visiting Fairbanks Ice Dogs 5-2 on Friday.

The hosting team took the lead at 11:14 of the first period, with a goal scored by Hunter Newhouse. Caleb Huffman assisted on the play.

The Brown Bears opened the second period by making it 2-0 when Hunter Newhouse scored, before the Ice Dogs tied the score. Cameron Ricotta supplied the tying goal, assisted by Alexander Malinowski and Billy Renfrew, at 13:21.

In the final minutes, however, it was the Kenai River Brown Bears who seized the game. Carter Cloutier scored the decisive 3-2 goal assisted by Parker Lockwood and Caleb Huffman at 15:23.

The third period remained scoreless for a long time. With two quick goals from Bryce Monrean and Caden Triggs at 41 seconds apart near the end of the game and decided it. The final goal came with 01.09 left to play.

The Brown Bears were called for eight penalty minutes, while the Ice Dogs received 15 minutes.

The teams now have the chance to fine-tune their tactics, as they play each other again in the next matchup on Saturday at 10:30 p.m. CST at Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
