LOS ANGELES — Bismarck's Britta Curl, who was expected to take the roster spot of injured Brianna Decker on the U.S. women's Olympic hockey team, tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday just before she was to depart for Beijing.

In a tweet, Curl said she "was super excited at the opportunity to join Team USA but a positive COVID test means I will not be able to help out a great group."

Curl played at Wisconsin. She was a member of the US residency program this past year, bypassing her junior year with the Badgers to train and play with the U.S. team.

Decker was injured last Thursday in a win over Finland and will not return to Olympic play.
