Hockey Day Minnesota is this weekend in Mankato

There will be high school, college games at Blakeslee Stadium

MANKATO, Minn. — It is taking place a year later than originally scheduled, but Hockey Day Minnesota is happening this weekend at Blakeslee Stadium. The event had to be postponed last year due to the pandemic.

The official Hockey Day is Saturday, Jan. 22, and there are a number of games on the schedule.

There will also be games held Friday night, but they will not be televised. On Friday, Mankato East/Loyola (10-5-0) plays Mankato West (5-10-0) in a boys hockey game at 5:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., there will be a game played with Minnesota State University-Mankato men's hockey team alumni taking part.

The official Hockey Day is Saturday and it starts off with an outstanding girls game. Andover is the top-ranked team in Class AA. The Huskies play third-ranked Edina at 9:30 a.m. The following games will be televised on Bally Sports North:

9:30 a.m. — Andover (13-0-0) vs. Edina (12-1-0), girls hockey.

1 p.m. — East Grand Forks (5-9-0) vs. Prior Lake (7-8-0), boys hockey

4:30 p.m. — University of St. Thomas (2-22-0) vs. MSU-Mankato (21-5-0), men's hockey

8 p.m . — Chicago Blackhawks (15-8-6) at Minnesota Wild (22-10-3), NHL

The Tommies vs. Mavericks game will be a CCHA game. The two teams play Game 1 of their conference series on Thursday in Mendota Heights.

On Sunday, the games will not be televised, but there will be an MSU-Mankato women's hockey alumni game at 11 a.m.

There will be a WCHA women's game between the Mavericks (10-11-1) and Tommies (4-15-1) at 1 p.m.

Then there will be a Tier III junior hockey game between the Minnesota Mullets (14-15-1) and Steele County Blades (14-13-0) at 4 p.m. The game between the Mullets and Blades is the first junior hockey game to be played during a Hockey Day Minnesota weekend. The two teams play in the U.S. Premier Hockey League.

The high temperature for the outdoor games is expected to be about 15 degrees Fahrenheit each day.
