The 2022 Team USA men's hockey team will begin its pursuit of a gold medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics when it opens competition Thursday, Feb. 10, with a preliminary round game against China.

OTHER OLYMPIC NEWS
The two-time Gophers national champion and four-time World Championship gold medalist announced her retirement from international hockey, but stays busy growing the game as a coach and broadcaster.
Also: men's team members nominated for several individual awards, Tommies new home provides potential WCHA tournament options and that football team in purple breaks Bob Motzko's heart, again.
A rep from Minnesota Sports and Events traveled to Canada for the 2023 World Juniors to see what the fuss is all about, and they plan to bid on bringing the 2026 tournament to the State of Hockey.
NHL
With as many as 300 friends, family and Elk River community supporters there to see him, the former St. Cloud State star defenseman played his first NHL game in his home state.
Game Five of the Rivalry Series between the world's top two women's hockey teams was a back-and-forth affair that required extra time and an overtime goal, as Team Canada pulled off a 3-2 win.
The Americans completely dominated the final period of their Rivalry Series game with Canada, played in suburban Las Vegas, only to see a crazy angle shot through traffic spell the difference.
Team USA will face our neighbors from the north in games played in the Las Vegas area and in Southern California later this month. The Gophers will not miss any of their college games as a result.
Jim Johannson, a 1982 Rochester Mayo graduate, was a two-time Olympian, an NCAA national champion and was the assistant executive director of USA Hockey when he died in January of 2018. Johannson left a lasting impression through his work with more than a dozen USA national teams. Wednesday, he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the RiverCentre in St. Paul.
Now 88, Murray Williamson's new book “The Road to Respectability” chronicles some of the legendary foundational moments.
Last fall, Johnson was the head coach for the USA Olympic women's team as well as the head coach for the Tommies. With it being a non-Olympic season, he is zooming in on helping UST take the next step in its second season in Division I
