MINOT, N.D. — Fargo South-Shanley took down Minot 3-0 in a North Dakota boys hockey state tournament quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday.
After nearly 13 minutes without a score, Sam Ovsak took advantage of the power play, finding the back of the net to give South-Shanley a 1-0 lead. Tanner Kirkeby and Jake Skarperud assisted on the play.
With the score the same as the third period started, John Lange scored a huge goal for the Bruins, giving the No. 3 seed a 2-0 cushion lead. John Gores added the team’s third goal with just over five minutes left in the game. Zach Sandy recorded 14 saves in the shutout win for South-Shanley.
With the win, the Bruins advance to the semifinals to take No. 1 Grand Forks Central at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26.
