FARGO — Fargo South-Shanley buried four goals in the first period en route to a 4-1 East Region boys hockey victory on Friday over Fargo North.
All four South-Shanley (6-1) goals came within seven minutes of each other. Jake Verwest struck first at the 8 minutes, 2 seconds mark of the first period. Tanner Kirkeby made it 2-0 South-Shanley at the 11:42 point, then Luke Schielke pushed it to 3-0 14 seconds later. John Lang capped the South-Shanley barrage at the 14:29 mark of the opening frame.
South-Shanley goalie Zach Sandy tallied 17 saves.
Owen Bartz scored a third-period goal for the Spartans (2-6).
