In a rematch of the 2019 Dixon Cup Championship, the Northstar Christian Academy 18U hockey team went head-to-head in a revenge game against Meijer AAA for a chance to go 4-0 this past weekend in St. Louis.
Meijer jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first before Jacob Napier found the tying goal late in the second. KJ Hjemm buried a backhander before Anthony Menghini iced the game with an empty-netter. Logan Verpoort made 22 saves and recorded an assist on Napier’s goal.
The win over Meijer was the fourth of the weekend. On Friday, nine different Knights scored as Northstar beat the Florida Alliance 16-1. Ashton Christman and Calvin Hanson each had six points. Dylan Cook had a hat trick and an assist in his Northstar debut.
The offense turned quiet on Saturday morning against the Tri State Spartans. After the Spartans scored late in the second, Cody Coral tied the game before the intermission. Menghini scored with 27 seconds left in the game to notch a 2-1 win. Verpoort made 22 saves.
Saturday’s nightcap featured a close game between Northstar and Esmark. Kade Peterson broke the ice to give the Knights a 1-0 lead 54 seconds into the contest. Coral scored late in the first to put the Knights up 2-0 before the Stars cut the lead in half in the second. Reese Labauch and Joe Westlund both scored to give the Knights a 4-1 lead. Esmark would tally two more, but Chris Brown’s 17 saves were enough for his second win of the weekend.

On Sunday morning, the 16U Knights capped off a 4-0 weekend by beating the Florida Alliance 2-0. Dawson McCann scored both goals for the Knights in the win. Austin Moline had two assists while CJ Kier recorded a 28-save shutout.
Saturday was all Knights as they beat Meijer 7-2 and Tri State 4-0. Adler Johnson scored 42 seconds into the Meijer game, followed by a pair of goals from Jaxson Grosdidier. Lear Voit, Luke Schelter, Cooper Fredericks and Kaleb Pitman also had goals in the win.
During the 4-0 win over Tri State, Pitman scored a pair and Moline added a third in the second period to take a three-goal lead. Brayden Berg scored his first goal of the weekend in the third for insurance.
The most exciting game of the weekend came on Friday night against Esmark.
Schelter scored the opening goal before Johnston made it 2-0 midway through the second. The Stars evened the score early in the third with a pair of goals before Northstar scored three unanswered off the sticks of Brady Jones, Voit and Schelter again.
Kier made 19 saves in the win.
