The Northstar Christian Academy 18U hockey team took home two wins in Milwaukee last weekend.
After the Admirals broke through first, Jacob Napier evened the score for Northstar with a power-play goal. From there, it was all Knights. Cody Coral scored his first of two goals late in the first period before adding another in the second. Calvin Hanson buried a short-handed goal to take a 4-1 lead before Alexandria native Joe Westlund found the back of the net.
Northstar’s 5-1 win on Sunday followed another shutdown performance on Saturday. The Knights beat the Admirals 3-0 behind goals from Anthony Menghini, Ashton Christman and Owen Hanson.
Goaltending was solid all weekend for the Knights. In game one, Chris Brown stopped 18 shots before Logan Verpoort made 21 saves in game two. The Knights are back on the road for a National American Prep Hockey League Showcase in St. Louis this weekend.
16U team splits with Milwaukee
While the 18s were able to pick up an early-season sweep, the 16U Knights only came away with one win on the weekend.
Fresh off a Saturday win, the Admirals got the best of the Knights on Sunday. After Garin Cernich scored midway through the first period, the Admirals got two of their own in the following two minutes. Milwaukee buried two more goals before Jaxon Grosdidier added a late tally for the Knights. The Admirals took game two 4-2 after the Knights took home a thrilling win the night before.
Briggs Orr scored the first goal of the game in the first period to put the Knights up 1-0. The Admirals would tie the game and take the lead heading into the third period before Brayden Berg and Luke Schelter scored in a 15-second span to give Northstar a 3-2 lead. Dawson McCann notched what would be the game-winner for the Knights midway through the third as Northstar took home a 4-3 victory.
