Warriors advance to the Class A state quarterfinals with convincing win over Stars

ST. PAUL — The top-ranked Warroad girls hockey team scored all the goals that it would need against River Lakes in the first period Wednesday in the Class A state quarterfinals at Xcel Energy Center.
The Warriors scored three goals in the first 14 minutes and went on to a 7-0 win over the Stars. With the win, Warroad (24-3-1) advances to the semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday and will play fourth-seeded South St. Paul (16-10-2), which beat fifth-seeded Luverne, 3-1.
River Lakes (16-13-0) will play Luverne (23-4-0) at about noon Friday at TRIA Rink in the consolation semifinals.
Warroad got goals from seven players and 11 saves from senior Kendra Nordick on its way to the win.
Freshman forward Kaiya Sandy, junior forward Talya Hendrickson and junior forward Kate Johnson each had a goal and two assists and junior Lila Lanctot added a goal and an assist for Warroad.

Freshman Kaydence Roeske made 55 saves for River Lakes.
