MINNEAPOLIS — In the section 6AA semifinal, No. 3-seed Benilde-St. Margaret's and No. 2-seed Wayzata met up at the Palace Ice Garden Wednesday, Feb. 16 to determine who would move on to the championship match and have a chance at playing in the state tournament.
The Red Knights and Trojans had previously played once this season back in November, which resulted in a 2-1 win for Wayzata. This game though would be a little bit different, and Benilde-St. Maragaret's would come out on top 2-0.
The first two periods of play on Wednesday were very even between both teams. The Red Knights and the Trojans both had ample opportunities to score but simply couldn't put anything past the goaltenders.
The third period is where things started to heat up. Wayzata took a body-checking penalty only a few minutes in, which resulted in a Red Knights power play goal from senior Lily Mortenson.
Wayzata would take two more penalties, but would also get a power play of their own late in the third, but couldn't find the equalizer.

The Trojans decided to pull their goalie with about two minutes left in regulation, when Mortenson would strike again, this time on the empty net, to seal the deal for the Red Knights.
Benilde-St. Margaret's would come out on top in this game by a final score of 2-0. Final shots on goal were 30-23 in favor of the Red Knights.
Ms. Hockey semifinalist and Ohio State commit Emma Peschel had a good night for BSM, receiving the primary assist on the first goal and keeping the defensive core strong throughout the game.
Senior Lily Mertenson posted both goals for the Red Knights, while goaltender Allie VanStelten received a shutout.
Benilde-St. Margaret's will advance to the 6AA championship match on Friday at 7 p.m. where they will take on No.1-seed Edina.
