The 2022 MSHSL Girls Hockey Tournament gets underway Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Last season's champions return in both Class A and 2A, with Proctor/Hermantown (19-7-1) and Edina (25-2-0) looking to defend their titles against fields headlined by No. 1 Warroad (23-3-1) in Class A and undefeated No. 1 Andover (27-0-0) in 2A.
Andover is the team to beat in 2A after dominating its three opponents in section 7AA tournament play, outscoring them 28-1 in three games. The Huskies' last loss, a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Edina, came in the 2021 state championship game last April.

On the Class A side, the field is made up entirely of public schools for only the second time in its history and first since 2006, when the tournament only included four teams. Eight of the last 10 Class A championships have been won by private schools.
