Hockey: Willmar WarHawks top Alexandria Blizzard 7-2

Willmar WarHawks score frequently in win over Alexandria Blizzard.

WILLMAR - For the sixth time this season, the Willmar WarHawks (29-14-1) have beaten the Alexandria Blizzard (23-20-1).

Alexandria finishes the regular season with a 1-6 record against the WarHawks.

With three goals in the first and second period, Willmar had its victory locked up by the beginning of the third frame. With one goal in the final frame, Willmar beat Alexandria 7-2 on Tuesday night.

Six different WarHawks found the back of the net, led by forward Collin Kerchoff with two goals.

Willmar had a 41-24 shot on goal advantage.

Alexandria scored its first goal of the game in the first frame (4:52). Forward Sean Kenny found the back of the net on an assist from defenseman Charlie Larsen.

Larsen scored his fourth goal of the season and the Blizzard’s second goal of the game, with 34 seconds left of the second frame. Defenseman Karsten Senden and forward Benjamin Tschida had the assist.

Kenny leads the Blizzard in points with 47.

The Blizzard are 5-4-1 in their last 10 outings.

Alexandria ends its regular season with a pair of matchups against the Minnesota Loons (5-40). Alexandria is 5-1 against Minnesota this season and has outscored Minnesota 43-8 in those eight matchups.

Alexandria hosts Minnesota at 7:10 p.m. on Friday, before heading up north to Breezy Point for Saturday’s game at 7:30 p.m.

The Blizzard is fourth out of six teams in the West Division and has already clinched a playoff spot.
