FARGO — After exchanging six goals in the first period, the Fargo Davies girls hockey team scored three unanswered goals to defeat Moorhead 6-3 Thursday night.

The first period opened to a frenetic start with the two sides trading goals in the first minute. Kaia Johnson scored about 30 seconds in to draw first blood for Davies. The Eagles' advantage was quickly erased by Olivia Dronen's strike 22 seconds later.

The back-and-forth battle continued throughout the frame as Dronen scored once more to give the visitors the lead. Davies responded with Paige Hanson's goal. Moorhead took a 3-2 lead through Betsy Davis, but Olivia Opheim then found the back of the net for the equalizer.

The hosts rattled off three goals in the second period, with Opheim, Taylor Klassen and Faith Morris scoring on Moorhead's Haleigh Storbakken. Mathilde Vetter provided two assists for Davies.

Storbakken made 25 saves for the Spuds, while Kennedy Cook tallied 16 for Davies.

The Eagles climbed to 10-0-2 and host Devils Lake at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17. Moorhead fell to 6-12-1 and face Roseau at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.
